Owaisi urges T’gana to implement NHRC order in encounter case

WhatsAppFacebookTwitterTelegramEmailPrint Hyderabad, (Samajweekly) AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and MBT leader Amjedullah Khan have demanded the Telangana government to implement orders of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to compensate the families of the five undertrials who were gunned down by the police in an alleged encounter in 2015. Hyderabad MP Owaisi hoped that the state government will comply with the NHRC award on the Alair encounter. He tweeted that by an order dated July 29, the NHRC directed compensation of Rs 5 lakhs within four weeks to the kin of those killed in the encounter. Owaisi said the MLAs of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had repeatedly raised this issue in the Telangana Assembly. The Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) has also demanded implementation of the NHRC order and the arrest of all the policemen involved in the encounter. MBT spokesman Amjedullah Khan welcomed the NHRC order directing the state government to pay compensations to the families of Viquar Ahmed, Syed Amjed Ali, Mohmmed Zakir, Mohammed Haneef and Izhar Khan who were killed on April 7, 2015 at Alair, Nalgonda district while being taken from the Warangal Jail to Nampally court in Hyderabad. Khan recalled meeting then NHRC Chairperson Justice K.G. Balakrishnan during his visit to Hyderabad on April 21, 2015 and represented the matter. He said all the five men shown as accused in three cases, including the killing of two home guards were later acquitted by the court. Senior advocate Mohammed Osman Shaheed had lodged a complaint with the NHRC over the ‘fake encounter’. Zakir Naik continues to receive ‘dirty money’ from Gulf

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Sources close to developments have revealed that Islamic evangelist and zealot Zakir Naik, one of the most wanted Indian fugitives, who is currently based in Malaysia, continues to be engaged in propagation of radical Islamic activities and collection of funds from his wealthy contacts in the Gulf region to support his activities. In the most recent instance, Naik has allegedly contacted one of his old contacts, Abdullah Ali al Emadi, a prominent Qatari national, and requested him for a generous charity during the ongoing Ramadan period. Emadi is learnt to have assured an amount of $500,000 to him. It is also learnt that Mohammad Siddique Al Emadi, a Qatari national, is allegedly a close associate of Naik and helps him contact local wealthy businessmen and charity organisations for collection of funds. It may be recalled that Naik is an Islamic preacher and televangelist from Mumbai. He is the founder of Islamic Research Foundation (IRP) and Peace TV, an Islamic TV Channel broadcast in Urdu and English from Saudi Arabia. He is also associated with several local radical Islamic organisations such as South Karnataka Salafi Movement and Al-Lisaan Islamic Foundation. Naik continues to maintain several bank accounts in Gulf countries, including Qatar and the UAE, for collection of such funds to evade scrutiny of the Indian government. He generally uses these accounts to transfer funds to his associates and network for activities by IRF and other associated organizations. The Indian government has since put a five-year ban on IRF. Naik is involved in preaching of radical Islamic ideology that has influenced a number of youth in India and abroad in adverse manner and some of them are found to have been motivated to join extremist organisations such as Daesh...

UP Assembly session begins under Covid shadow

Lucknow, (Samajweekly) The three-day Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha is starting on Thursday under strict Covid-19 protocols. The Assembly session will have only two working days since the duration of the session has been curtailed because of the pandemic. Assembly Speaker Hriday Narain Dixit said, “The Assembly administration is taking all the precautions to prevent an outbreak in the Assembly. Last week, 600 staff members of the House were asked to take coronavirus tests and 20 of them were found to be positive for the virus. All Ministers, Legislators will also be allowed entry only after they undergo the Covid test.” In the tests conducted for the Assembly session, state minister Chaudhary Udaibhan Singh and five Legislators have tested positive for Covid-19. Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow, Dr. R.P. Singh, said, “The minister has been admitted to the Rajdhani Covid Hospital at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, where a team of doctors is taking care of him.” Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Tejpal Nagar and Sanju Devi, and an MLC, Parvez Ali, also tested positive according to the Vidhan Sabha officials. Most of the elderly Legislators in both the Houses of the state Legislature will not be attending the session in view of the pandemic. Farooq convenes meeting of senior NC leaders

Srinagar, (Samajweekly) National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has called a meeting of senior party leaders on Thursday, days after the J&K government told the court that the party leadership is free and not under any kind of detention. A National Conference statement said that Party President Farooq Abdullah has invited senior party members including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri and Nasir Aslam Wani for a meeting at his residence on 20.8.2020 at 5 pm. “National Conference has taken cognisance of the stand taken by the Government in Hon’ble High Court in the Habeas Corpus matters filed by the President and Vice President of the party for securing the liberty of various leaders of the party that have been under an illegal house detention,” a party statement read. “On a perusal of the reply the party has noticed that the government has unequivocally submitted before the High Court that no leader is under detention and that they are free to move subject to necessary security arrangements.” The statement further read that the party is mindful of the present pandemic and accordingly the meeting with various leaders that have been under detention will be done in batches of four members per meeting. “Needless to add that all SOPs shall be strictly followed by all concerned,” the statement read. “The Party is hopeful that the liberty of the members under detention is now absolute and the meeting is held successfully on the appointed day.”..
